National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland

In 2012, Ron was asked to play guitar in the backing band for the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and is subsequently a full time member, performing in the UK & in Europe with the band.

The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland is a non-competing, cutting edge performance pipe band for 10-25 year olds in Scotland. Launched in 2002, The NYPBoS brings a dynamic, exciting, and modern spin on the traditional pipe band experience, and performs both at home and abroad.

The band encompasses Scotland’s best pipers and drummers at a national level, and with an experienced backing team to merge and form new ideas. With innovative takes on traditional material, the music aims to challenge the performers while entertaining both piping and non-piping listeners alike. Repertoire is selected and arranged by the band’s senior members and often includes their own compositions. Senior members are also involved with all aspects of producing the show, which includes working very closely with the backing musicians, lighting designers and sound engineers.

Recent performance highlights include Christmas Tattoos in Switzerland, Festival de Ortigueira in Spain and George Square as part of the 2018 European Championships, as well as performing as part of Celtic Connections in 2019.

“Working with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland is a truly inspirational experience. These young people are at the top of their game and are truly carving paths as a new generation of pipers and drummers, completely in a league of their own.”
